1. What types of printing operations are Powerwise ink pumps designed for?
Powerwise ink pumps are designed for industrial printing operations, including flexographic and gravure presses. Uses include corrugated box, plastic bags, cellophane wrappers, wallpapers and paper bags. The three major styles of ink pumps are centrifugal, double diaphragm and peristaltic are included in the Powerwise range of pumps.
2. Are Powerwise ink pumps used in office printers or inkjet printers?
No. Powerwise ink pumps are not designed for office printers, desktop printers, or inkjet systems. Those systems use fundamentally different ink delivery methods and operate at much lower volumes and pressures than industrial printing environments.
3. What types of inks can Powerwise ink pumps handle?
Powerwise ink pumps are engineered to handle low to high-viscosity inks, including water-based, solvent-based, and specialty inks. Most printers use a Zahn Cup # 2 to measure their ink viscosity. The centrifugal pump performs well on viscosities up to 20 Seconds #3. Normal operating viscosity is approximately 22 seconds on a Zahn cup #2. Higher viscosities require a positive displacement pump like a double diaphragm or peristaltic.
4. How do I know which ink pump is right for my application?
Selecting the right ink pump depends on several factors. An assessment of required flow. This depends on the size of the press. Are you using a small label press 6-15 inches wide or a large corrugated press up to 72" wide. The distance from the ink container to the press affects the flow rate of some pumps. This is known as the head. The viscosity must be measured because a centrifugal pump is often the best option but it can't handle high viscosities. Other factors that affect the overall friction resistance must be taken into account.
5. What is the difference between centrifugal, peristaltic and diaphragm ink pumps?
Centrifugal pumps are an impeller style pump which stands in the ink.
