Problem - Not Enough Flow from My Centrifugal Ink Pump
Centrifugal Pumps have a certain performance characteristic. As the pressure on the discharge increases the flow from the pump decreases.
There is a simple explanation. The tolerances on centrifugal pumps are large and liquid will always travel the easiest route. There is a point at which it’s easier for fluid to slip back around the impeller than pump through the discharge.
All of the fittings and tubing on the discharge side of the pump add up to resistance.
Possible Solutions:
- Reduce the length of tubing
- Reduce the number of fittings
- Increase the tube bore
- Bore out the size of the inlet to the enclosed chamber
- Clean the filter
- If there is a bypass fitted make sure the bypass flow is closed
